BRECHIN The Ancient City

Bolag Bar

In this photograph, taken on 04 November 1997, is The Bolag Bar, 2 Church Street, Brechin.

The 16th century building opened as a public drinking bar in the early 1900s by a company of men who worked in a weaving factory, D & R Dukes, Denburn Works, Brechin.

The bar is located at the centre of Brechin at the 'Old Cross' where proclamations were read out, prisoners were punished, and fairs held.

Hogmanay/New Year is still celebrated here.
