Eric was born at
142 Montrose
Street, Brechin on 14 November 1930. He attended Andover
Primary and Bank Street Secondary schools in Brechin. He
left school aged thirteen and a half years and worked in the
engineering department of D. & R. Duke linen manufacturers.
After two years national service in the Royal Navy he
worked at Stracathro Hospital and trained as a Registered Mental
Nurse at Montrose Royal Hospital, Hillside. Eric is married
to Mary Cargill Mowatt who trained in childrens' nursing in
Edinburgh, as a student and Registered General Nurse at Perth
Royal Infirmary and Irvine Memorial Hospital, Pitlochry.
Eric and Mary met at Stracathro Hospital and were married
at Fordoun P
arish
Church, Auchenblae on 29 December
1956. They have two sons, Eric and Iain. Eric and
Mary started working at the US Navy Base, RAF Edzell in March
1971. Eric trained in printing at the MOD, London and Mary
was Charge Sister at the Navy Base Medical Clinic for eighteen
and a half years. Eric's hobbies include hillwalking, video
recording, local history, history of the Boer War, WWI and II,
American Civil War, speeches of Winston Churchill, Martin Luther
King Jr. etc, jazz music of the 1930s-50s, and country and
western. Favourite film stars include John Wayne, Cyd
Cherisse, Michael Caine, Richard Widmark, and Laurel and Hardy.

Eric was born at 11 Wards Road, Brechin, on 14 October 1957. He attended Brechin High primary and secondary schools between 1962 and 1975. He graduated from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh in 1979 with an Honours degree in Biochemistry. After spending 6 years in research and development with Distillers Company Limited he moved into production. He is now Senior Site Manager with DIAGEO plc based at Glen Ord Distillery north of Inverness producing malted barley and malt whisky - nice work when you can get it! He attained a Malting Diploma (Maltings Association of Great Britain) in 1989 and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with the Open University in 1998. Eric is married to Marion, whom he met while living in Islay, and now lives in Conon Bridge, a small village in the Black Isle. His hobbies include skiing, golfing, and astronomy, in particular, astrophotography.
